The Construction and Development Services Department is your full service Building Department. Included in this department is the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals performs a variety of services intended to protect, maintain, and develop an attractive, safe, and healthy environment. Primary functions address property development and land use activities occurring in the City.

Construction and Development Services Department

The Construction and Development Services Department is responsible for ensuring that all work conducted for new construction, rehabilitation and demolition is carried out with the materials and methods that conform to approved site plans and the appropriate City codes. The Department is also responsible for all coordination and administration of the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Construction Board of Appeals, Property Maintenance and Code Enforcement for the City. The Department reviews plans and issues construction permits, including building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, sewers, signs, and other permits required by City Codes.

The City offers a free pre-application meeting every Monday or Wednesday afternoon (2pm-4pm) by appointment, please email the Planning and Zoning Department by clicking HERE.

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission is responsible for ensuring the City’s Master Plan for Future Land Use (see Future Land Use Map associated with the Master Plan). Zoning Ordinances are implemented through site plan review and ordinance amendments. The Commission also makes recommendations to the City Council and City Manager on all matters affecting the physical development of the City.

Zoning Board of Appeals

The Zoning Board of Appeals is responsible for review and action on appeals of the City’s Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map through administration reviews, variances and exception appeal types. Click for application.
