The Wixom Honey Bees made a home in a downtown willow tree that was to be taken down to make room for the new Robertson Brothers Home development. It was determined that the bees must be saved and that is when bee keeper Tracy came to the rescue!
The Wixom Honey Bees were relocated and have been hard at work doing what they do best, making honey! From this the Wixom Willow - Bees were created.
This has become a community project, involving our two local elementary schools, Wixom Elementary and Loon Lake Elementary. Bee keeper Tracy visited the 3rd and 4th graders at these schools, so they could learn about the bees and what an important role they play in our environment. Also, the students learned that they would be painting the new homes for the Wixom Willow - Bees.
Once completed, the hive boxes will be moved to the entrance of the Wixom Department of Public Works on Charms Road at the end of October. The students are creating some amazing works of art and dressing up the Wixom Willow - Bees new homes!
