Duluth Trading Co. is expanding its Michigan footprint with a new store in Grandville, opening Thursday, and one in Wixom opening Nov. 30.

Duluth Trading Co. is expanding its Michigan presence with a location opening near Grand Rapids on Thursday and a Wixom store scheduled to open Nov. 30.

Yes, ax-wielding lumberjacks will take part in both grand openings.

The Wisconsin-based retailer — known not only for its workwear and other apparel but its humorous commercials — entered the Michigan market in April with a store in Macomb County. The new store will be decked out with all the holiday trimmings, said Holly Dugan, a public relations representative for the company.

The Wixom location at 10900 Assembly Park Drive is 16,237 square feet. Cost of construction was not disclosed.

The store will employ 35-40 workers, a half-dozen of whom will be full time.

The general contractor on the project is Troy-based C.E. Gleeson Constructors Inc. and the designer is Interwork Architects Inc., based in Illinois.

A ribbon-cutting is scheduled for 9 a.m. Nov. 30; lumberjack shows are set for noon and 3 p.m.

The store in Grandville is about the same size and will also have a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. Thursday with lumberjack shows at noon and 3 p.m.
