POSITION TITLE: Part-Time Senior Assistant
REPORTS TO: City Manager/Senior Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate, or equivalent; strong interpersonal skills especially in relation to building and maintaining consensus and maintaining open communication with patrons, ability to work well with members of the public; ability to communicate well in person and in writing; computer skills including typical business applications; skills and experience in the following areas is preferred - social media and publishing tools; organizational skills; and training, education and experience in senior programming and activity coordination
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Enjoys working with seniors and helping to create a welcoming, stimulating environment for them to enjoy and actively participate in.
- Demonstrates patience, attentiveness, positivity and flexibility while working to address the needs of the senior community.
- Maintains open and ongoing communication with community members and the Senior Coordinator.
- Assists in coordinating and staffing senior activities including activities focused on recreation, entertainment, education, craft, exercise, events and trips.
- Provides guidance and, where necessary, assistance in a wide variety of personal service areas involving the senior population (i.e., housing, social security, Medicare/Medicaid, prescription programs, welfare, food stamps, or similar programs).
- Assists with developing public information including city administration reporting, newsletters, calendars, and social media content to keep participants and other stakeholders informed of events, developments, and/or changes in the community.
- Sets up and conducts class registration for senior programs and trips in Civic Plus Recreation Software.
- Encourages, organizes and directs volunteer participation in the community
- Promotes good public relations with seniors through a positive attitude and positive interactions.
- Assists with communication and application of rules, regulations, and policies for the senior function.
- Key coordinator for senior exercise classes including setup, participant check-in, and payment processing.
- Primary responsibility for senior program registrations including assisting participants and completion of transactions.
- Responsible for keeping senior lounge clean and organized including updates of program information, coffee/snack preparation and restocking.
- Assists with large event set-up, clean-up, and staffing
