DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Enjoys working with seniors and creating a welcoming, stimulating environment for them to enjoy and actively participate in by providing programs that inform, entertain and provide fellowship with other seniors of the community.
Demonstrates patience, attentiveness, positivity and flexibility while addressing the needs of the senior community.
Maintains open and ongoing communication with community members, other City departments and the Senior Commission (citizen advisory board).
Develops and implements processes to encourage and increase participation in the senior function through events, classes and membership.
Assists in planning, coordinating, supervising and implementing senior activities including activities focused on recreation, entertainment, education, craft, exercise, events and trips.
Provides guidance and, where necessary, assistance in a wide variety of personal service areas involving the senior population (i.e., housing, social security, Medicare/Medicaid, prescription programs, welfare, food stamps, or similar programs).
Collaborates with a variety of government and other agencies that provide information and services to the senior population, including other senior centers, in order to improve the senior experience in Wixom.
Designs publications and the Wixom Senior Program Calendar utilizing software tools, such as Publisher, to keep participants informed of events and/or changes in the community.
Works with the City Manager’s Office to provide senior-related website and social media content and postings.
Sets up and conducts class registration for senior programs and trips in ReCProTM Recreation Software.
Encourages, organizes and directs volunteer participation in the community.
Promotes good public relations in the local community as the public face of the senior function.
Assists with development of rules, regulations, and policies for the senior function.
Organizes and monitors the scheduling of senior transportation through the City transportation program to ensure accessibility of programs and services.
Prepares and maintains appropriate records and reports, submits reports and monthly financial records to City Manager; administers budget allocations.
Prepares annual report of participation numbers for programs and submits report to City Manager.
Coordinates senior scheduling and use of facilities with the Community Center Supervisor and other City staff by maintaining clear, productive and ongoing communication.
Ensures senior-utilized facilities are kept orderly and clean.
Performs related duties and assists other City staff as required and/or as directed by the City Manager’s Office.
