The City Manager is the chief administrator of the City, appointed by the City Council. The City Manager is responsible for making recommendations to the City Council on policy and service matters; for implementing and administering those policies, programs and ordinances adopted by the Mayor and City Council and for promoting high standards of ethics, professionalism, integrity and responsiveness throughout the City organization.

Clarence E. Goodlein was appointed City Manager of Wixom in August 2015 to bring new leadership and direction to City government. During his 35 years working for the City of Wixom, he has served five years as its Police Chief and ten years as its Police Chief and Director of Public Safety.  Mr. Goodlein brings to his position knowledge, experience, and leadership that are sound and proven, and that will provide our community with success as it proceeds into the future.

Mr. Goodlein is a 1984 graduate of Madonna University’s Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice program, a 1992 Psi Chi honors graduate of the University of Detroit-Mercy’s Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology program, and a 2004 Pi Alpha Alpha honors graduate of Oakland University’s Master of Public Administration program. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and Executive Leadership Programs at both the Southern Police Institute and Senior Management Institute for Police. He is a Michigan Limited License Psychologist and Adjunct Professor of Counseling Psychology, Research Methods, and Statistics at Rochester College where he has served as such for ten years.

Mr. Goodlein has served as a committee member and secretary of the Lower Peninsula Law Enforcement Risk Control Advisory Committee of the Michigan Municipal Risk Management Association and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Michigan Association of Professional Psychologists.
