City Boards

  • Board of Review: The Board of Review is a three member body, appointed by the City Council, which annually reviews and certifies the Assessment Roll as prepared by the City’s Assessor.  The Board considers appeals filed by property owners relative to changes in assessed value and also reviews requests for reductions in assessments due to the inability of the taxpayer to pay the full amount of the resulting property taxes.  The Board meets principally in March but also may be scheduled for meetings in July and/or December to correct error and mutual mistakes of fact.

  • Cemetery Board: The Cemetery Board is composed of five members and was established in 1985.  The members meet annually to support the integrity of the cemetery, provide input and direction for future projects, and maintain the value of the history of the Wixom Cemetery.

  • Downtown Development Authority: The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is a separate corporate entity created by the City Council under Michigan Public Act 197 of 1975, as amended. In compliance with the Act, the DDA is the managing entity for development and financing activities within an established district.  These development and financing initiatives are intended to reverse the pattern of deterioration in the downtown area and to plan for and implement certain public improvements that are considered necessary for future economic growth. The City Manager of Wixom serves as the Executive Director of the DDA.

  • Local Development Finance Authority: The LDFA is used to fund special projects such as the Wixom Road By-Pass.  The LDFA uses property tax revenues collected on a designated geographical district to pay for the principal and interest on LDFA Bond issues to fund a specific project.

  • Parks & Recreation: The Parks and Recreation Commission serves as an advisory board to the City Council on the recreational needs of the City and assists in the planning and implementation of the recreational events and park development for Wixom residents.  The Parks & Recreation Commission has a staff of full-time and part-time personnel to program recreational events and City functions on an ongoing basis.

  • Planning Commission: The Planning Commission is responsible for ensuring the City’s Master Plan for Future Land Use, Zoning Ordinance and maps are implemented through site plan review and ordinance amendments.  The Commission also makes recommendations to the City Council and City Manager on all matters affecting the physical development of the City.

  • Senior Commission: The Senior Citizen Commission is an advisory group to the City Council on the needs of the senior citizens in the City.  The Commission operates out of the Wixom Community Center.  Activities include cards, bingo, exercise programs, meetings, potluck days, tax assistance, trips, recreational programs, and daily socialization.

  • Tax Abatement Review Committee: This Committee shall be composed of not less than seven nor more than eleven members, of which one shall be the Mayor.  The Committee will convene when a Tax Abatement Application is made to the City.  After hearing from the applicant the Committee then makes a recommendation to City Council, who ultimately makes the final decision if an Abatement will be granted.

  • Zoning Board of Appeals: This Board is responsible for review and action on appeals of the City’s Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map through administration reviews, variances and exception appeal types.
