Wixom Historical Society - Card Campaign for Fallen Hero
The Wixom Historical Society and its President, Laure Dorchak, have a special request. Last May, they presented a program honoring U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Justin Ellsworth, a 20 year old Wixom resident who was killed in 2004 in Operation Iraqi Freedom II while heroically saving the lives of others. On Sunday, May 28, the City of Wixom will unveil a memorial plaque in his honor, next to City Hall on Pontiac Trail. The ceremony will take place at 2 PM. This is going to be a very important City-wide event. All are invited and encouraged to attend. Justin's family has devoted their lives to support other Gold Star families and those who are serving our country in the armed forces through their organization, Military Families United. Please join all of us in remembering Justin and his family, showing how our community can come together when needed.
For this event, they are conducting a card campaign, trying to get many letters and cards of support and thanks to the Ellsworth family in Justin's memory. They will present the cards to his family in a "Basket of Love" at the ceremony. Could you possibly help by writing a card or letter? If you are not sure what to write, they suggest including words such as "Thank you for our freedom"..."We will never forget"..."Our hometown hero"..."With love from your friends in Wixom."
Their goal is to get a large quantity of cards. They have a basket in City Hall near the Clerk's office, for people to drop off cards there. If you are a member of an organization or club, please have the members sign a card. If your children are members of athletic teams, scouting organizations, dance groups, social clubs, etc. please have them sign a card. Hand made cards would be wonderful as well. We all need your help to make this a success. We all want to make sure that LCPL Ellsworth's family knows that we appreciate his sacrifice.
