Wixom Fire Department Rescues Man From Icy Water

Wixom, Mich. – On the afternoon of Monday, March 13, 2017, members of the Wixom Fire Department rescued a man who was trapped in his vehicle in an icy pond.

A 60 year old Novi man lost control of his pickup truck on Oak Creek Drive on Monday afternoon.  The truck plunged into the icy waters of an industrial retention pond.

The first Fire Department members to arrive on scene were Chief Jeff Roberts and Lieutenant Jason Breitmeyer. Chief Roberts immediately put on a survival suit designed for cold water rescues. The Chief helped the man onto the bed liner of his truck. The Chief and the Lieutenant then helped the man crawl across a ladder from the back of his truck to shore. The man was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital.

The men and women of the City of Wixom are very proud of the Wixom Fire Department and the heroic efforts of Chief Roberts and Lieutenant Breitmeyer. They are also grateful that the driver was not severely injured.

The City of Wixom is urging anyone with video of the rescue to please send a copy to the Police Department Public Information Officer at RMoore@wixomgov.org.
