A 108,491 square-foot home decor superstore is coming to Wixom.
At Home Group Inc. has purchased property, an outlot of Menard’s, 10800 Assembly Park Drive, to build a At Home retail store just south of Menard’s. The final site plan was approved at the Dec. 19, Planning Commission meeting.
The store is scheduled to open around Thanksgiving 2017.
“The new At Home store is located at the gateway of the City, and it has been the desire of our elected officials and staff to place unique businesses at that site,” said Debra Barker, Wixom economic and community development director. “This particular location will be the second store for At Home in Michigan, making it a “destination”. A destination store will be great for all of the surrounding commercial businesses in the area. Patrons will also be able to shop at Menard’s and Aldi’s while they are in the area, and then have lunch locally as well.”
• According to the company’s website, At Home is focused on providing customers with the broadest assortment of home décor products to suit any style, any room, at any budget, for any reason to redecorate
• Over 50,000 home decor items offered
• At Home operates 123 stores in 30 states and is headquartered in Plano, Texas
• store would be eighth location in Michigan, second in Oakland County (Bloomfield Hills)
In addition to the retail store there will be improvements made to the existing site including a parking lot with 382 spaces, with 10 barrier-free spaces, cross access connections with Menard’s and various landscape improvements.
The property is currently zoned General Planned Unit Development District, where retail businesses greater than 60,000 square-feet are allowed as special land uses in that district.
“At Home intends to hire approximately 25 people to work in the Wixom store,” said Barker. “Any new jobs within the city are important and will fulfill a need.”
